Reworking land to benefit the community. Denver school turns abandoned field into thousands of pounds of produce

I had written before about how we might choose to use public lands to grow our foods, such as portions of parks, your church’s immense lawns etc. Here is my previous article on taking back the land;
In this great article from Denver Colorado’s Doug Schepman a 7News reporter you will see a perfect example of this.
DENVER – Just eight months ago, a one-acre plot at the Denver Green School was an unused athletic field, but now that land has come to life with food-bearing vegetation.
“We have harvested over 3,000 pounds of produce from this ground. Lots of salad greens and root vegetables, tomatoes, eggplant, peppers,” said Megan Caley, the programs and outreach coordinator for Sprout City Farms.
“Kids are eating healthier,” said Frank Coyne, lead partner at the Denver Green School. “They are excited to eat the tomatoes on the salad bar, they are excited to eat the cucumbers.” Each week during harvest season, the farm produces 150 pounds of fresh, organic fruits and vegetables that end up in the school’s cafeteria.
Third-grader Justin Acosta said since the farm was built, he’s eaten more vegetables during lunch,
“Because it makes you healthy, it comes from the farm and we grew it together,” Justin said.
Building on the concept of community gardens on school grounds, Sprout City Farms created this project to introduce students to new foods and to show students where food comes from.
“One of my favorite parts was when we were digging the potatoes, and it’s just really interesting to put my hands on the vegetables and stuff,” said third-grader Stella Overby.
In addition to learning about agriculture, the farm helps teach other lessons as well.
“There are 180 kale plants here and they are in rows of three. So, we need to divide up 180 into three different groups,” said third-grade teacher Kartal Jaquette, who took his class outside to the farm for a math lesson.
“We wanted to be able to connect the outside world, the real world, to what’s happening inside the classroom,” Coyne said.
“It’s been extremely gratifying to see the kids out here. They are in constant awe and amazement of how food grows, and when they get to touch and really see how it happens, it’s a huge experience for them both educationally and emotionally,” said Chad Hagedorn, the farm manager for Sprout City Farms.
The farm was built at no cost to the Denver Green School. Sprout City Farms raised more than $20,000 for the project. Nearly half that amount came from “community supported agriculture” contracts, in which people pay a lump sum to receive fresh produce from the farm on a weekly basis.
The farm staff hopes the success at the Denver Green School inspires similar programs at other public schools.
“It’s a very replicable model and it could spread like wildfire throughout the state and country,” Caley said. “To turn this [land] into thousands and thousands of pounds of vegetables for the cafeteria is such a great use.”
The real scoop on probiotics

In this great article by Dr Willliams learn more about why probiotics are so important, but why just taking a supplement is not all it takes. J. E. Williams, OMD, FAAIM
For the natural health conscious, probiotics factor high on their list of supplements. And, most of these people know that probiotics, or friendly bacteria that live in the gut, play important roles in digestive function, including assimilation of nutrients from foods and supplements. However, the beneficial functions of probiotics do not stop at a happy gut; they also support a healthy immune response. This is because probiotics inhibit the growth of pathogenic bacteria by producing organic acids, hydrogen peroxide, and unique natural antibiotic substances. In turn, these process and neutralize toxic compounds.
There are studies that illustrate the effectiveness of probiotics in supporting a healthy immune response. For instance, a Scandinavian study has shown that those who supplement with probiotics before surgery are less likely to have postoperative infections. In fact, the use of antibiotics to treat all hospital-based infections decreased for those taking probiotic supplements. Furthermore, a healthy gut in which there are robust probiotic populations prevents colds and flus. A study in China showed that school-aged children who supplemented with probiotics suffered from upper respiratory infections 34% less than children who did not.
Despite what these studies show, simply adding a probiotic supplement is not enough to stay healthy if you have low levels of probiotic species or imbalances of friendly to potentially harmful bacteria. Normalizing probiotic populations requires time and the right ingredients. First, you need a product that contains active, live probiotic species. If you haven’t had a stool test, where you can find out which species you need to supplement, a broad spectrum of probiotic species is best. Second, you need enough of them. On average, 5 billion active organisms are sufficient. However, if you have low levels (determined by stool testing), you need more – at least 25 billion, twice daily. Thirdly, they have to get past stomach acid and the upper intestinal digestive enzymes, which can destroy bacteria on contact. No one has tested the absolute best time to take probiotics, but my clinical experience suggests that taking them immediately before meals helps move them past the stomach and through the small intestine faster. Others say between meals; but, though I did recommend that approach for many years, I now question whether it makes good sense to have live bacteria sitting in the stomach for hours – exposed to a bath of gastric acid. For practical purposes, taking them with food makes sense, too.
To help build strong probiotic colonies, you also need the right substrate of fiber and prebiotics, a category of nutrients that support the growth of healthy microflora. The most commonly recommended prebiotics are inulin and fructooligosaccharides (FOS). They can be taken as supplements but are also found in foods like chicory root, garlic, onion, and other fruits and vegetables. Naturally fermented foods like sauerkraut, kimchi, and dairy drinks (like kefir) are good sources of prebiotics. Getting enough soluble fiber is also important. You need at least 20-25 grams daily, and more if you have digestive concerns.
Malabsorption of sugar causes the wrong type of fermentation in the gut with symptoms of gas, bloating, pain, diarrhea or constipation. It also disrupts colonization of probiotics and favors potentially pathogenic microorganisms like yeast and fungi. It is well known that lactose can cause this effect, but other sugars, including sucrose and fructose, cause similar problems. When attempting to recolonize the gut, cut back on the simple sugars, or better yet, eliminate them entirely for a few months.
KEY POINTS FOR PROBIOTIC REPLACEMENT THERAPY
- Take a probiotic product containing live species.
- Take enough: 5 billion for general health, up to 50 billion for replacement.
- Take just before or with meals.
- Provide enough fiber and prebiotics.
- Cut back on all sugars.
- Eat a wide range of fermented foods.
- Be regular by taking them daily for at least one year.
The probiotic product you take needs to guarantee precise identification of species and number of units. Advanced probiotic manufacturers use DNA-based technology and PCR (polymerase chain reaction) to identify bacteria types. The combination of viable bacteria that adhere to and colonize the gut with a low sugar, high fiber, plant-based diet is necessary in repairing the gut. Getting the right bacteria to recolonize your gut is not easy. It takes time, up to a year or longer to make progress. However, your health depends on it, and it will be worth the time and effort for improved immunity and digestive health.
Your Question of the Day: Do you take probiotics? If so, what kind?
Honey I lost my nuke?
December 1, 2011 by Darren6688

In a major and long term cover up, whose revelation has been so long in coming because of laws that would put whistleblowers in jail for life, the British government is scrambling to figure out whatever happened with their lost nukes, Yes, folks British nukes are missing. For more info read this article that appeared on the Intel Hub;
Did we the British public know that our current Prime Minister was instrumental in the loss of three illegal nuclear weapons?
Is the UK frantically trying to find out where they were sold on the “Black Market”?
We know something that you don’t…… but can’t talk about it Under the Nuclear Explosions Act otherwise we will all end up in gaol for life.
Chris McGreal of the Guardian newspaper published an article 24th of May 2010 revealing how Israeloffered to sell nukes to South Africa during the apartheid era.
What he failed to reveal was that Israel struck up a deal with South Africa to move its technicians down to the high-security weapons research and development facilities at Pelindaba.
It was at this location that the Israeli technicians managed to covertly give themselves nuclear weapons but also under the table gave South Africa its own nuclear capability but guess what?…….the US and UK knew all about the programme but the UN did not!!!…….what was even more amazing was the fact that the UN sent a team to South Africa where they were convinced that South Africa had curtailed its nuclear weapons programme when in actual fact it had not!!
It is fairly obvious why Israel is totally consumed in trying to find these stolen weapon and needless to say the US and British Governments are equally as concerned and yet are not in a position to admit to their loss as in doing so would incriminate past and current very senior politicians including our current Prime Minister David Cameron.
It always appear to be the case that your past always comes back to haunt you. So let’s just recall the history behind these weapons that were designed and commissioned all during the UN embargo years and who was allegedly involved.
I must also make it quite clear that many of the world leaders and senior members of government have been involved in these under the table deals which has resulted in many of them accumulating much wealth either for the party election funds or for their own personal gain.
When one further considers that these faceless individuals not only govern out country but are also directly responsible for the death of millions of people both military staff and civilians it is extremely hard to understand.
How can any government have such a flawed intelligence network and allow such things to take place without some sort of audit to see what is going on behind the scenes.
We have seen both the US, UK, EU and Israel transfer almost everything from chemical and biological weapons to nuclear part to countries which they have since called the “Axis of Evil.”………..that statement is not totally true because the “Axis of Evil” is right here in the heart of London!!
It was in the late 1970 when the South African nuclear programme started to go into full swing with the compliments of the Israeli scientists resulting in the first test and only test firing of a nuclear weapon.
The test took place on a moored vessel anchored off Prince Edward Island on the 22nd of September 1979 when a typical double flash was observed from a passing US satellite.
One has to understand that this was all under the radar of the United Nations with the full knowledge of selected members of the US and British Governments. The US immediately went on the defensive by creating their “False Flag” report known as the “Vela Incident” in which they explained the following:
The conclusions of the Presidential panel (the Ad Hoc Panel) were reassuring, as they suggested that the most likely explanation of the Vela detection was a meteoroid hitting the satellite – in part because of the discrepancy in bhangmeter readings Others who examined the data, including the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), the national laboratories, and defense contractors reached a very different conclusion – that the data supported the conclusion that on 22 September 1979, Vela 6911 had detected a nuclear detonation.
What I find ironic here is the fact that several agencies confirmed it was a nuclear explosion but the US Government conveniently put it to bed.
I can assure you that through my own scientific contacts in the US this did actually happen and an internal memo at the Los Alamos nuclear research facility confirmed that it had been a nuclear explosion. One has to understand the high stakes involved in such programmes, especially when vast sums of money are being banded around senior political figures. This is truly corruption at its best!
The joint venture (Israel – South Africa) created 10 Battlefield Bombs and after the first test that left nine. The bombs were designed to be highly mobile and reasonably compact and could be carried by the British Canberra bomber or the Buccaneer.
It became apparent in later years that the supremacy of white power in South Africa was about to finish and so they had to open up discussion with the Americans and British as they feared these weapons getting into the hands of the blacks.
It was during this time that a decision was made to ship all nine bombs to Chicago for de commissioning. However, our dear “Iron Lady” Maggie Thatcher decided that it would be a good idea to maybe acquire a few of the weapons for possible use against Iraq in the event Saddam did not toe the line.
Thatcher then ordered her Page Boy, David Cameron, to go down to South Africa along with what was believed to be the only technical man available (non other than the now( Sir) Kenneth Warren).
Others also believed to be implicated was David Wilshire and many other senior members of government. In actual fact as we follow this charade up to the current time we could possible include other very senior person such as Lord McAlpine, Peter Lilley, Alan Clarke and Ken Clarke and others I have previously named in other articles. The late Dr. David Kelly was also involved.
We have to remember that this was almost a private sector deal with many political figures implicated some of whom became share holders in the illegal nuke purchase. We are talking here about an extremely high risk deal, with little security for the weapons themselves as everything had to be done in a low key covert way.
As we already know David Cameron was able to secure a deal for his lady mentor, Maggie Thatcher, and returned with a deal for three nuclear weapons.
They were shipped to Oman whereby they were put in private sector storage and eventually stolen by John Bredenkamp, the arms dealer who sold them to Britain and then stole them back to sell on the Black marketand the rest is now history.
We have to understand that British Tax Payers money was then placed in the Conservative Party Electoral Fund (£17.8m) which to this day has not been accounted for and other money was made available to Tony Blair (£1m) compliments of Bernie Ecclesone.
On top of this a slush fund was also developed to silence other third parties that knew of the deal and our dear Mr. Ken Clarke then implemented his gagging orders to those involved!!
I guess you do not believe this story……why don’t you check it out yourself it is written in Hansard 22nd June 1993, and starting at Col. 197 when Lord Doug Hoyle raised the issue in the House as follows:
“Mr Hoyle: If the hon. Gentleman will allow me, I shall tell him what information is now given to us. We understand the expenditure and what Tory central office receives.
In 1992, central office received £20.7 million. When we asked about that and about company donations, the Tory party told us to look at company accounts. I repeat: in 1992, the Tories received £20.7 million. When the records were checked by Companies house, only £2.9 198million was shown in company accounts. That means that there is a deficit of £17.8 million. We want to know where that £17.8 million came from.
Mr Tim Smith: The hon. Gentleman has made the suggestion about the accounts of the Conservative party that was made by a member of the Select Committee last week: that no accounts had been published between 1979 and 1983. They were published, and I undertook to send copies to the Select Committee.
Mr Hoyle: I gave way to the hon. Gentleman because I expected him to tell me where the difference of £17.8 million came from. I shall give way again to him. I am told that he is a treasurer of the Conservative party.
I give way to him now so that he can stand up and tell us where the £17.8 million came from. Does the hon. Gentleman care to do that? I am waiting. I do not think that we shall get the information from the horse’s mouth. We certainly did not get it from the Secretary of State.”
I could write article after article on the many levels of corruption that occurred in both the US and the UK (not forgetting Israel) and the terrible consequences of this greed resulting in the death of many of our own troops and innocent civilians….all for their own pocket.
Solid evidence proves that over the period of 1982-90 Iraq was supplied by the US and UK with WMD, including biological cultures and chemical precursors of nerve gases etc.
GMO Crops Continually Banned Around the World in Display of Health Freedom

In this article from Activist Post, Anthony Gucciardi informs us of some great successes in the GMO battle, with countries and counties standing up against the GMO juggernaut. A case in point here in the USA, Colorado’s Boulder County was the latest health freedom hotspot to stand up against Monsanto and genetically modified produce, with Boulder County advisory committees announcing plans to phase out GMO crops on open space in pursuit of sustainable and ethical farming practices.
The county joins a long list of other political bodies that have banned, condemned, and even uprooted GMO crops across the globe.
Both the Food and Agriculture Policy Council and the Parks and Open Space Advisory Committee of Boulder Country voted 5-4 to phase out GMOs in an economically viable way. The transition proves that it is possible to be environmentally conscious, preserve the health of citizens, and still maintain economic stability.
Genetically modified corn has been growing on around 16,000 acres of cropland owned by the county for around a decade. In 2009, public concern over the consequences of GMO crops sparked public debate within the county. Citizens demanded that GMO crops be banned after 6 local farmers asked permission to plant sugar beets that were engineered to resist the herbicide Roundup.
Nations Starting to Ban and Uproot GMO Crops
Hungary has gained international recognition for their bold stand against biotech giant Monsanto, destroying all Monsanto corn fields littered with GMO crops. The nation destroyed 1000 acres of maize found to have been grown with genetically modified seeds, which are banned in the country. Many of the farmers were actually shocked to find they were using GMO seeds, which are resulting in extreme environmental consequence.
Are the senate going to take away our constitutional rights in this week’s vote?

In this article from infowars we see yet again how dangerous it can be for us when the charlatans in Washington who are supposed to protect our interests are doing nothing but eroding them.
With the bill expected to be up for a vote within 48 hours, Senator Rand Paul has offered an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act that will kill a provision allowing the militaryto detain individuals, including American citizens, without trial or due process.
The “indefinite detention” sections of the NDAA bill would turn the whole of the United States into a “battlefield” and hand the executive branch the power to have the military arrest U.S. citizens and hold them without trial.
The provision is merely an update to the “parallel legal system” had been in place under the auspices of the war on terror for over a decade, “In which terrorism suspects — U.S. citizens and noncitizens alike — may be investigated, jailed, interrogated, tried and punished without legal protections guaranteed by the ordinary system,” as the Washington Post reported in December 2002.
In attempt to kill the indefinite detention provision of the legislation, Senator Rand Paul aims to strike Section 1031 from the bill, which reads as follows.
“Congress affirms that the authority of the President to use all necessary and appropriate force…includes the authority for the Armed Forces of the United States to detain covered persons…Detention under the law of war without trial”.
The amendment is seen as having more teeth than a change offered by Colorado Senator Mark Udall which the ACLU has urged voters to support. “There are other similar Amendments too, however none of them completely eliminate the Constitutionally offensive section,” reports the Tennessee Campaign for Liberty website.

Writing in the Washington Post today, Udall emphasizes the fact that the bill does affect American citizens.
“The provisions would require the military to dedicate a significant number of personnel to capturing and holding terrorism suspects — in some cases indefinitely — even those apprehended on U.S. soil. And they authorize the military to do so regardless of an accused terrorist’s citizenship, even if he or she is an American captured in a U.S. city,” writes Udall.
Republican Congressman Justin Amash also warned that the bill had been “carefully crafted to mislead the public,” in suggesting that the indefinite detention provision didn’t apply to American citizens when it clearly does.
“Note that it does not preclude U.S. citizens from being detained indefinitely, without charge or trial, it simply makes such detention discretionary,” Amash wrote on his Facebook page.
As we documented yesterday, every single piece of legislation passed in the name of catching terrorists has been used against American citizens on countless occasions.
In an op-ed for the SIlicon Valley Mercury News, S. Floyd Mori, national executive director of the Japanese American Citizens League, warns that the legislation would create the legal framework for internment without trial on a similar scale to how Japanese-Americans were held in concentration camps during World War II.
“Indefinite detentions based on fear-driven and unlawfully substantiated national security grounds, where individuals are neither duly charged nor fairly tried, violate the essence of U.S. law and the most fundamental values upon which this country was built,” he writes.
The National Defense Authorization Act is set for a procedural vote at midday on Wednesday.
Where is the good quality storable food out there?
November 29, 2011 by Darren6688

As you probably know we launched the survive2thrive 40 day/night Organic storable food pail this summer in response to our customers requests for healthy storable food. We thank you all for your support of this product and the Enerhealth Botanicals company and thought you might enjoy this article from Natural News on the subject.
(NaturalNews) Are you as frustrated as I am with the GMO-laden, MSG-contaminated, soy-based storable foods industry? Over the past 18 months, I surveyed many of the big storable foods companies in the marketplace, hoping to find a company I could recommend as offering long-term storable foods that are certified organic, 100% non-GMO, 100% free of TVP and soy products, and 100% free of MSG, autolyzed yeast extract and other hidden forms of MSG.
To my great surprise, I discovered there is no such company, (They obviously had not heard about Enerhealth Botanicals or forgot about them) at least not to my knowledge. Sure, you can get storable food on the cheap from lots of companies, but if you actually read the ingredients, you’ll find they’re loaded with:
• Conventionally-produced corn and soy ingredients, which are almost always GMO.
• Autolyzed vegetable proteins, hydrolyzed ingredients, yeast extract and other hidden forms of MSG.
• Chemical preservatives and additives.
• Loads and loads of soy, often packaged as TVP (textured vegetable protein).
Personally, I won’t eat TVP, MSG, GMOs or chemical additives, and I don’t want these ingredients in my storable preparedness foods, either. I’m not going to name the companies that sell this stuff, because I’m not out to embarrass anyone. But I am out to educate you about the difference between processed “filler” storable foods versus high-quality, non-GMO, organic storable superfoods nutrition that can keep you alive during a crisis without poisoning you with chemicals and GMOs.
Bottom line? Read the ingredients of the stuff you’re considering buying. Watch out for TVP, hydrolyzed or autolyzed vegetable proteins. Watch out for conventional corn and soy products, which are almost always genetically modified. Know what you’re buying for emergency preparedness, or else you may end up putting away a bunch of food that you wouldn’t dare eat unless you were truly starving to death…
The catch in all this is that, as you might expect, high-end nutrition is inherently more expensive to produce than low-end TVP and processed, genetically modified foods. That is true and yet the survive2thrive 40 day/night Organic storable food pail is a 40 day supply with almost 300 servings of highly nutritious foods.
Storable foods made with TVP are simply cheaper, and that’s because TVP is the No. 1 ingredient in prison food (http://www.naturalnews.com/034139_s…). Non-organic foods grown with pesticides are super cheap to produce. GMO soy and corn is essentially animal feed that’s used to fatten cows for slaughter. They are not, by any stretch of the imagination, survival foods or sources of high-end nutrition.
In an interesting way, however, cheap processed foods may play a strategic role in your preparedness strategy. For example, you might want some cheap foods to hand out to your neighbors who forgot to prepare, so you buy the TVP foods to have extra calories on hand to help those who didn’t prepare, while you stock up on the high-end non-GMO superfoods for your own personal and family use. It’s a reasonable approach to stretch your food storage dollars. I just wouldn’t store away GMOs and TVP for my own personal use or family use.
Child’s Remains and Other Bones Identified at Canada’s Oldest Indian Residential School in Brantford, Ontario

A Statement from the Kanien’keha’:ka Nation of the Grand River
Please visit www.itccs.org
(BRANTFORD, Ontario) – Archaeological surveys and test digs authorized by we, elders of the Kanien’keha:ka Nation, have been conducted at the former Mohawk Institute Indian residential school since October 1.
This past week, while on the grounds of the school, our researchers along with Kevin Annett -Rawennatshani, who acts with our approval, have unearthed what has been described as human remains. One bone among sixteen uncovered has been identified, through preliminary visual examination by a competent archaeologist, as that of a young child. This bone sample is described by the same archaeologist as “definitely human”.
A test dig in a twenty square foot area on grounds adjoining the former Mohawk Institute have revealed a considerable number of bones, as well as buttons which have been confirmed to be part of the children’s school uniforms. Large deposits of coal were also found associated with these remains, all at a depth of barely two feet. Several of the bones have also been cut up, suggesting that the bodies may have been deliberately dismembered, while other bones were broken.
We declare the area on and near the former Mohawk Institute to be a crime site under our jurisdiction, and we will not allow representatives of the Crown or Church of England, or the government of Canada, access to these excavations because of their complicity in this crime.
These institutions have consistently refused to disclose the evidence they possess regarding the Mohawk Institute and the deaths of children under their legal care, and therefore, we are proceeding to charge these bodies with crimes against humanity in international courts of justice, based in part on the forensic evidence we have uncovered.

Known Carcinogen Spreading Through Groundwater in New Jersey, Hundreds at Risk

Are you concerned about having clean water to drink? As you will see from the article below, we can not always rely on the EPA and others to keep our water safe. Water filtration becomes so important in the light of this information. Read this article by Brian Merchant to learn more!
Aaaaand here’s why we need good, well-upheld environmental regulations. An investigative report carried out by a small newspaper (and that’s why we need to keep those things around, too) has revealed that hexavalent chromium is spreading through the groundwater in Garfield, New Jersey, and is putting hundreds of people’s health at risk.
If that stuff sounds familiar, it might because it’s the same known carcinogen that Erin Brokovich famously brought to light when it was seeping through folks basements in the southern California town of Hinkley.
The New York Times has the details:
Three tons of the chemical leaked from a plant in 1983, but the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection allowed the cleanup by the electroplating factory responsible to stop after just 30 percent of the toxic substance had been removed. The neighborhood of 600 homes and businesses is now New Jersey’s newest Superfund site, and residents fear that the chromium, the same pollutant whose presence in groundwater was investigated by Erin Brockovich in Hinkley, Calif., may be infiltrating their basements and endangering their health.
Cases like this should serve as blunt reminders as why we really, really need the EPA to be on the job. An electroplating company, then the NJ EPA, each dropped the ball here, and now hundreds of people are potentially facing serious health woes. As in, they could end up with life-threatening cancer because a company didn’t take proper care to clean up its toxic mess and no one forced them to.
Every time I read a story like this, it a) pisses me off. The amount of leeway we allow industry in polluting and contaminating not just the natural environment, but the communities that people live in, is unacceptable. And b) perplexes me that the modern conservative movement continues to rally against protections that work to prevent cases like this.
Remember, some Tea Party congressmen and Fox News pundits want to roll back the kind of regulations that might save chemical companies a few bucks, but that protect people from irresponsible industry practices like dumping carcinogenic materials into places where it might contaminate groundwater. That’s not an exaggeration. Some of them are calling to abolish the EPA altogether, or to drastically reduce its funding.
We get reminder after reminder that we need an active agency working to curtail industrial malfeasance — and still there are people out there who want to roll back environmental protections and give corporations free reign. It’s crazy.
5 Surprising Culprits Behind Obesity and Weight Gain
November 28, 2011 by Darren6688
Filed under Commentary, General News, Green Living, Health News
In this interesting article below by Mike Barrett featured on Infowars, we see some things you may not have thought of that will promote weight gain and even obesity. We know that diet and exercise play a major role but many who take care of these factors are still challenged when it comes to keeping their weight in line. Here is the article which offers some good food for thought. Of course the role of detoxing the body with greens and cleanses and giving it optimal nutrition must never come in to question. These things are and will always be essential components of a healthy life.
There is no doubt that the Western diet holds most of the weight regarding the escalating obesity epidemic we are facing today.
Ingesting overly large portions of foods containing fat-promoting ingredients coupled with an inactive lifestyle is the perfect recipe for a gigantic disaster.
While these obesity contributors are widely known, there are actually some other very surprising factors to consider when analyzing the reason for the nation’s continued growth.
Antibiotics Could be to Blame for Excess Weight
As surprising as it may seem, antibiotics have actually be pinpointed as being a promoter for obesity as well as diabetes and metabolic syndrome. While antibiotics succeed in destroying bad bacteria, which is their intended use, they also destroy good bacteria in the gut known as friendly flora.
This lack of bacterial discrimination leads to a shortage in friendly gut bacteria which are responsible for regulating overall health, including weight management.
Pollution has been Connected with Weight Gain
Not many people would point their finger at pollution when searching for a cause for obesity. And while poor air quality certainly isn’t a primary reason for extra weight, it does indeed have a link to extra weight. Research has shown that ingesting toxic chemicals found in both food and the air leads to increased fat storage in babies. A defense mechanism is triggered in unborn babies when mother’s take in these toxic chemicals which is supposed to protect the baby. It just so happens that this defense mechanism is the formation of fat.
Shampoo, Plastic, and Pesticides
There is growing concern regarding various chemicals used in products today and their impact on our health. Chemicals like bisphenol-A, phthalates, PCB’s, POP’s, and pesticides, which are all endocrine disruptors, have been tied to many health ailments such as infertility, asthma, diabetes, and obesity. Paula Baillie-Hamilton, an expert on metabolism and environmental toxins at Stirling University in Scotland, was one of the first to point out the connection between environmental toxins and obesity. She noted that:
Overlooked in the obesity debate is that the earth’s environment has changed significantly during the last few decades because of the exponential production and usage of synthetic organic and inorganic chemicals
Environmental toxins are lesser known evils when it comes to health complications, but it may be time people started seriously considering these toxins when evaluating their health.
